Few lighting designs are as instantly recognizable as Maison Jansen’s Palm Lamps. Created during the 1970s for the legendary Parisian design house, they have become enduring icons of French decorative design, transforming a familiar natural form into a sculptural statement.

The attribution is supported by a period Maison Jansen publication, where two large sculpted bronze palm trees are shown flanking the fireplace of a Jansen interior and described in the accompanying text as “two large palm-trees in sculpted bronze.” Related examples have also been associated with French designer Christian Techoueyres and may connect to the largely undocumented Jansen Collection of the 1970s.

This exceptional pair is crafted from brass, with individually formed palm fronds radiating from beautifully textured trunks. At nearly architectural scale, the lamps command a room without overwhelming it, casting a warm glow through their layered canopy while creating striking shadows.

Acquired by Unreturned from professional collectors in Turin, these lamps were one of those rare finds we couldn’t leave behind. Their extraordinary scale, craftsmanship, and quiet theatricality embody everything we love about collecting objects that don’t simply decorate a room, but completely transform the atmosphere.
